Level I:
This level represents the typical alpaca found in the United States today. Actually , given the latest Yocom-McColl National Fleece Study, the alpacas here are probably better then the typical animal. However, at Gene Genie Alpacas, Level 1 animals are not for sale.

Level II:
This level represents the genetically improved alpaca. The improvement in this case comes as a result of a calculated matching of a fine quality Level I Dam with a Studmaster™ or equivalent Sire. Level II alpacas exhibit unusually good conformation and fineness as a direct result of this careful breeding.

Level III:
This level contains alpacas that are "two-sided". They are the reward of our plan to place Studmasters™ or equivalent Sires on both sides of the individual's pedigree. The success of this plan is clearly evident in both their excellent conformation and their remarkable histograms. These are clearly valuable alpacas.

Level IV:
Creating the valuable alpaca, of course, is merely another step in our successful breeding program. Truly valuable alpacas must have genetic qualities can be inherited. Centuries of documented breeding practices have shown that one way that this can be accomplished is through the "locking-in" of these traits by some form of line breeding. At Gene Genie Alpacas, we have modified the classic line breeding pattern by substituting the use of a genetically similar alpaca, rather than the same animal. We call this method "Gene Weaving". Gene Weaving allows us to capture an alpaca's valuable genetic traits without incurring the risks (real or imagined) associated with classic line breeding. The result: genetically woven alpacas that can create meaningful improvement in your herd for generations to come.
